What started as a personal hobby quickly became something I realized could be a bigger opportunity. I learned how to do my own nails during the summer of 2025 and turned the skill into a small business where I provide custom nail services out of my apartment. I've built my client base through social media and word-of-mouth marketing. What I've Learned Personal Branding: Built up my Instagram by posting consistent content, engaging authentically, and developing a recognizable aesthetic Strategic Thinking: Early on, I chose to price lower to build volume and experience rather than charge premium rates with fewer clients. That taught me profit isn't always immediate - sometimes the ROI is in building your skills, portfolio, and reputation first. Client Retention: Keeping customers coming back requires more than good work - it's about consistent communication, reliability, and making people feel valued. Operations Management: Scheduling, inventory management, pricing strategy, and customer service - all while maintaining quality standards Financial Literacy: Tracking expenses, setting profitable pricing, managing cash flow, and understanding profit margins. Marketing Myself: My own nails are my advertisement. I am always representing my work and have turned compliments from strangers into booked appointments. It taught me that the best marketing isn't always a paid ad; sometimes it's just showing up consistently with quality that speaks for itself.
